Our third project focused on Dukhuni, Dukhuni means “woman of sorrows.” Her life matches her name.
In a small Bangladesh village, Dukhuni wakes up each day in her home of clay and tree bark. She cooks rice and leaves for breakfast. The leftovers become her meal for the rest of the day. She works hard, cleaning houses. Her monthly pay? Just $11. That’s 36 cents a day. But Dukhuni isn’t alone. She has a sick child. Her son needs medicine for his liver. Every month, she must choose – food or medicine? Most days, it’s just rice and leaves. No fish. No meat. Sometimes, kind neighbors share their food. Think about this: Your coffee might cost more than what Dukhuni earns in two days. The meal you had last night? It could be worth more than her monthly income.
Fundraising
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we collected a total of 24,000 BDT (approximately $197.21). Every Taka was carefully allocated to directly support Dukhuni and her child.
How Funds Were Used
| Expense | Amount (BDT) | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Household support | 24,000 | Essential needs for Dukhuni and her sick child, including food, basic necessities, and medical care |
The support ensured that both mother and child could live with a little comfort, dignity, and safety during difficult times.
