Rahela Chachi — House Construction

Alternative Identity: Rahela Chachi Project

The Problem: An Elderly Woman in a Dilapidated Hut

Rahela Chachi, an elderly widow living in a village in Sirajganj, was living in a collapsing hut near a pond. The structure was rotten, and the tin roof was filled with holes, leaving her exposed to rain, wind, and wild animals. Having no family to support her, she relied entirely on whatever food she could beg from neighbors each day. During the cold winter nights, her survival was at critical risk.

Our team discovered her during the Winter 2025 campaign. We immediately decided to allocate a portion of the raised funds to construct a brand new house for her and secure her basic food supplies.

Rebuilding a Home and Restoring Dignity

We spent 36,650 BDT to build a safe, sturdy house from scratch. Our Sirajganj volunteers procured corrugated tin sheets, wooden posts, and doors. The itemized cost breakdown was:

  • Tin Sheets: 21,090 BDT
  • Poles: 3,700 BDT
  • Wood: 6,000 BDT
  • Hardware (Doors, Windows, Nails): 1,860 BDT
  • Labor: 4,000 BDT
Additionally, we delivered a comprehensive food supply worth 4,000 BDT (including 50kg of rice, 5kg of lentils, oil, salt, and mixed fruits) to ensure she did not have to beg for food during the winter months. Today, Rahela Chachi has a safe, waterproof home and a sense of hope.
