Reshna Begum — Backyard Renovation

Also known as: Project Reshna

The Problem: A Collapsed Roof and a Cold Home

Reshna Begum, a 35-year-old woman living in Hasanpur village in Moulvibazar, was facing a severe housing crisis. Her husband, who was blind, was completely unable to work or perform manual labor. The family had also suffered the immense emotional tragedy of losing four children at birth. To make matters worse, the front porch roof of their tin house had completely collapsed due to heavy rains, leaving the interior of their home exposed to constant flooding, dampness, and cold winds.

They lived in a shared house with Reshna's father-in-law and brother-in-law's family, but neither household could afford the materials or labor to repair the structure. The safety and health of this vulnerable couple were at critical risk as winter approached.

The Field Verification & Execution

Our Moulvibazar regional coordinator, Rabbi Miah, conducted a field visit to inspect the damage, verify the costs, and coordinate the repairs. On November 2, 2024, We Do Charity launched the fundraiser with a target of 21,000 BDT. Thanks to our donor community, we collected a total of 23,400 BDT. After deducting the bKash cashout fee of 300 BDT, we had a net total of 23,100 BDT to fund the construction.

Itemized Materials & Financial Transparency

True to our commitment to showing where every single Taka goes, we published the complete construction expense breakdown. The total cost of the project came to 23,970 BDT. The minor deficit was covered directly from our collective emergency fund:

  • Tin Sheets (Corrugated iron): 13,820 BDT
  • Wood (Structural posts & frames): 4,600 BDT
  • Iron, Rope & Wire: 850 BDT
  • Tin Transport: 450 BDT
  • Wood Transport: 450 BDT
  • Labor Costs (Carpenters/Builders): 3,000 BDT
  • Labor Meals (Provided to workers): 300 BDT
  • Direct Cash Gift to Reshna: 500 BDT

The construction was completed on November 9, 2024. The porch roof was rebuilt from scratch with new, heavy-duty posts and waterproof corrugated tin sheets. The direct cash gift of 500 BDT allowed Reshna to buy fresh food items. When the keys were handed back, Reshna was overwhelmed with tears of joy, knowing her home was safe from the elements.
