Madrasa — Second Support (Kushtia)

Also known as: Al Madrasatul Arabiyatu Darul Ulum Kushtia / Kushtia Madrasa

The Crisis: Heat and Obstacles to Study

Al Madrasatul Arabiyatu Darul Ulum Kushtia, located in the Kushtia district of Bangladesh, was facing major infrastructural shortages. The school, run by a dedicated friend of our founder from the SEO community, did not have proper cooling in the main prayer and study areas. In the sweltering heat of the Bangladeshi summer, students struggled to focus on their memorization and prayers.

Additionally, the teachers had no printer to create examination test papers, forcing them to manually copy questions for every student. Finally, their religious texts and books of Hadith were scattered without a bookshelf to store them safely. The initial target was set at 40,000 BDT to procure 4 high-speed ceiling fans, a quality test-paper printer, and a large wooden bookshelf.

The Impact of the 2024 Internet Blackout

The fundraiser launched on July 12, 2024. By July 17, our community had raised 29,600 BDT (approximately $247 USD). However, execution was suddenly halted due to national political instability in Bangladesh (the 2024 Quota Reform protests), which led to a total countrywide internet blackout. Fundraising, updates, and communication became impossible overnight.

Rather than leaving the project incomplete, the moment the internet connection was partially restored, We Do Charity immediately sent the accumulated 29,600 BDT to the Madrasa director. When he received the funds, the director was overwhelmed with emotion and cried, sharing how this support would immediately buy fans for the hot prayer hall. This project taught us resilience and flexibility in crisis management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why did WDC send the money before meeting the full target?

A: The national internet blackout cut off communications. Once connectivity was temporarily restored, we prioritized immediate relief for the students rather than waiting indefinitely to hit the target.

Q: What did the director purchase with the partial funds?

A: The funds were utilized to install high-speed fans in the prayer area to provide immediate cooling relief during the hot summer months.

Q: How does this connect to other Madrasa support projects?

A: It is connected semantically to our other educational support initiatives, such as Project 8: Sirajganj Bookshelf & Mattresses and Project 15: Madrasa Hifz Speaker Box.
